Significant progress is being made on the Crisafulli government’s plan to boost housing stock in the North, including at Elliot Springs where 3,500 new homes will be delivered.

Member for Burdekin, Dale Last MP, explained that the Residential Activation Fund sees the state government partner with developers to overcome infrastructure challenges to speed up the delivery of new homes for Queenslanders.

“In just a few months we have seen immense progress on opening up the site of 3,500 new homes,” Mr Last said.  “It is a perfect illustration of the Residential Activation Fund clearing the way for families to have a place to call home and a key step in addressing the housing shortage.”

“Infrastructure like roads, water and waste water is critical for new housing but the costs can be exorbitant.  By helping with those costs, the government is ensuring that developers can start building rather than waiting for sales to reach a level that justifies the cost of that infrastructure.”

“In order to address the housing shortage, we need to see houses being built.  The government is accelerating these projects because we know that every day a builder isn’t building means another day that families have to wait for a home.”

Mr Last said that, by partnering with developers like Lendlease, the Crisafulli government was not only taking action on accelerating the delivery of homes but also on improving affordability.

“The government is acutely aware that affordability is an issue for Queenslanders wanting to purchase a home,” Mr Last said.  “By partnering with developers through the Residential Activation Fund the Crisafulli government is taking real action to improve affordability by increasing supply.”

“We have very ambitious targets in terms of housing development across the state, and we make no apology for that.  We have already fast-tracked nearly 117,000 new homes across the state and there is more to come.”

“While the previous government oversaw housing approvals going backwards, the Crisafulli government is delivering for Queenslanders right across the state.  Half of the Residential Activation Fund is being spent outside of the South East Corner and projects like this one at Elliot Springs are proof of the government’s commitment to regional Queensland.”
